A new Soto Zen training monastery is under construction: Tenpyozan
in Northern California.
Vision and Mission of Tenpyozan
Cultivating an Understanding of Impermanence and Interconnection, to Forge The Way of Wisdom, Peace, and Compassion.
Tenpyozan is a Buddhist training temple (修行寺) under construction in Northern California. We envision a world that is peaceful, sacred, and sustainable. Tenpyozan will provide a place for Soto Zen training and practical encounters with Buddhist wisdom.
There are an increasing number of Zen Centers and Temples across the globe, however we feel an unmet need for a place where American and international Zen lineages can all practice together. Tenpyozan will be a place of ‘common ground’ for all Soto Zen lineages, a place to encourage the collegial Buddhist Sangha. It will be a place to transmit and practice the ancient traditions of our founders, in an atmosphere of tranquility, inclusivity, plurality, and equity.
In addition to formal training for Zen teachers, Tenpyozan will be a place for all friends on the path. With the Soto Zen tradition at its core, we intend to weave a web of interconnection with makers, thinkers, and practitioners in culture, the arts, sciences, and other wisdom traditions. We hope to impact a broad audience with a variety of programs that intertwine the ancient and contemporary, and plant seeds of understanding and compassion for a wise and resilient future.
