Send Strong Nen

13 hours until I go under the knife. Should be fine... No public posts, just send nen. It helps. Thank you.

i'm not sure what nen is but sending healing thoughts to you spike.....

just let knife be knife, body be body, mind be mind--resting in nonabiding clarity, and you'll be fine.

be well,

Nen Jap., colloquial, lit. "idea, thought": a concept that in Zen has a special meaning that is fairly different from its meaning in the colloquial language. The Zen meaning derives from the Chinese character that is read nen in Japanese, which is comprised of one element meaning "present" and another element meaning "heart, mind, consciousness" --> (kokoro). "Moment of consciousness", "mind directed toward the moment", and "attention" are thus more accurate definition of the concept as it is used in Zen. A further meaning is "intensive, concentrated, nondualistic thought", a thought that has no object outside itself.

Not translating nen into English was, I believe, a mark of respect, as well as recognition that it is has a complex meaning. Like "Sunyata".

Spike, GG,

I used to practise "reiki" back in the late 90's (in a serious deep way compared with the then sudden commercialization of it)
There was this symbol called "hon sha ze sho nen" which is usually translated as "the buddha in you meets the buddha in me"
But more literally it translates as "My original nature is a correct thought" and correct thought here means "non-dual"
So to me is was another practise of "not-two" eventhough it's often just a self-grasping path of "healing others"
All my current teachers then try to push me towards a path of divinity,(literally samsaric realms of divinity)
so I gave up the practise of meeting with them and just continued on my own, applying the tools in a way I found useful for my own development. When I called my teacher and said I've read this book on Zen Buddhism and I really feel this is the way to go for me,
he said "I can't stop you" but he was slightly vexated.
Haven't spoken to him since, I hope he's allright.

That's how I knew the word Nen, Spike's request of sending "strong nen" is as complex as it is simple indeed.
Simple because I know what he's asking, complex because it's almost impossible to explain in this context.

Glad the operation went fine Spike. :ghug:

ps I have no issues with divinity or divine aspirations, but I focus only on the vehicle of liberation and the vehicle of humans where I can.
Everyone for President!

Spike,

Hoping you're all OK and on the road to recovery.

Some day, there will be "virtual knife". But, even then, we'll have to be "under" it, no?

I'm thinking "Star Trek" kind-of technology... . Probably bloodless. Who knows whether superior... .

best,

Santa Rosa and Forestville, where ZFI member Linda Anderson lives, are among areas in California that have been hit by wildfires. Believe these adjacent areas are subject to evacuation orders. Have a PM to her as of yesterday, nothing back yet, hope she and loved ones are safe.

Some before-and-after photos and a detailed map of the fire-storm area at Santa Rosa, plus a map of all of California showing sites of active wildfires, can be seen in an article at THE NEW YORK TIMES site, here:

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/10/10/us/california-fires-maps-photos.html

California Zen Institute is headquartered in Santa Rosa, under the leadership of John Tarrant Roshi and a circle of CZI teachers. I don't know how they fared in the overnight firestorm that overtook the city in 50-60 mile-per-hour winds at Midnight, allowing the fire to travel 16 miles in a few hours overnight. There was little or no warning. The mayor of Santa Rosa said on NPR (radio) here this morning that people had to grab what they could, and RUN.

I don't want to infringe on anyone's privacy, but anyone interested can find the/an address for Gregory's practice listed online- It appears to be a 15 minute drive south of Coffee Park, much closer as the crow flies -- and appears to be in a residential area ..

Before that, it was Target during the holiday season- Then Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield- Then someone got one of our cards for close to 600 and not that long ago my daughter for 3K the same day it was deposited- Ours was in state, hers clear across the country-

It has potential as a trendy word: as in 'zen there were nun' or 'nen may pass'. :ninja:

Glad it worked out :)X
