A most beautiful and inviting space seems to be coming together. A great place to practice some meaty zazen!

we're almost there. next monday we start sitting there.

after all this we start to deal with the landscaping. i plan to build a chan garden and plant taiwanese cherry blossoms in memory of my teacher. also we will feature a rock garden with platform around it for outdoor meditation.

after that, the two rear buildings. the one of the left used to be a small construction office, which will be converted to be the kitchen and the other one on the right will be a multi purpose space (sleeping space for overnight retreats, hold martial arts classes, yoga, etc).

thanks, meido. the buddha statue is made out of cypress. during the 50-year japanese colonization of taiwan, they practically took all the cypress (for their own temples and buildings!). but the factory we bought this statue from has been around for many generations; they actually kept some large cypress tree (stumps and trunks) and stored them for decades. so one piece is used to make the statue. the throne, halo, etc were made out of separate pieces. the factory also make most of their business exporting the statues for japan. their price is very fair too.

if your temple is looking for a statue, i can hook you up with the owner ;)

thanks, linda and fuki. the fellow with silver hair is fred. he's been with me since i moved to tallahassee... but these bodhisattvas have been with me for lifetimes...

Guo Gu,

Leaves me breathless (but inspired!).

Love the look of the wood floor and altar.

I want to do fast-walking there!; and slow-.

And, Morning-Exercises; and self-massage; and Yoga Exercises for Chan Retreat. And sitting (maybe some tai chi outside, too).

And prostrations (may we see the Buddha statue soon? Ah, I see it now, above. Buddha in zazen posture, and zazen mudra. Lovely Cypress. Does the Cypress still have a scent?).

Many blessings,

Guo Gu, if it's karma which is reborn or re-dreamed instead of the fabricated sense of a personality, in what way should I correctly perceive the sentence of these bodhisattvas being with you for lifetimes? Or would everything I say be an interpretation upon perception and therefore a fantasy?

My question is not due to the desire for knowledge but to give a (more) meaningful direction concerning this life.

fuki,
in dreams there is laughter and crying, living and dying. in emptiness we come into being and fade.
karma, rebirth, dream, emptiness, and fantasy--these are just words. but their reality is not denied.
we've been at it for so long... you too, my friend. our relationship goes beyond this life.
with you,

joe,
what will it take to get you here to visit? you must come--this is the chan cloister of holy adornment, the dharma center in shifu's name.
when you come you can smell if the scent of cypress is still around.

Thanks Guo Gu, intuitively I know that, but if there's no seperate person involved then all this is just a direct expression of the Absolute,
then all is good and samsara and nirvana are the same, I still can't understand my obstacle though and the bigger picture of it.

Thank you though, perhaps the flame (drive) will be rekindled when I least expect it.
