Events at Korinji

Postby Meido on Wed Feb 24, 2016 11:45 pm

We have scheduled a series of monthly zazenkai (short, overnight retreats) at Korinji monastery beginning in April. Korinji is on 17 forested acres about 50 miles from Madison, WI, near the town of Reedsburg.

Zazenkai are excellent opportunities to deepen your practice. They are also a good chance to become familiar with the atmosphere and training forms of more intensive retreat periods (sesshin). Finally, since our zendo at Korinji is new, you can be one of the pioneers helping to break it in!

Welcome all, please PM with any questions.

Dear Meido, what a wonderful labor you and your group have realized.
Your blue picture of the zendo entrance hangs over my small Indian Buddha.
Happy trails,

All welcome, whatever oceans they have to cross.

We just completed a first overnight zazenkai there. This was a very short retreat, but significant as it was the first formal training to be held in the zendo since its completion. Nice to start learning how to use the place in a limited manner, until we break ground next year for the residence.

Pics here for Facebook users: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1830438 ... 036003783/

We'll be conducting monthly zazenkai there until the fall, when we'll have a short sesshin. Info for everything is at www.korinji.org.

It seems like a wonderful place to learn and practice.
Maybe, you should take a drive out just to see it in person??

We've met him, on these very boards, in these very pages. A.k.a., one "Meido". ;)

Strong practice, and many blessings to all at Korinji, and everywhere!

Cool, his teeth remind me of my own teeth, went to the dentist today for the first time in 28 years

Thanks for keeping the price/donation low btw, at least that can be no excuse/reason.

Hope the dentist experience was not too uncomfortable. Well, all you need now is the jewelry :PP:

We consciously try to keep donation levels reasonable. It's always a "suggested" donation too, which means anyone is welcome even if they can't donate anything.

Thanks, there was some discomfort but not too much, but I need to go to the hospital for some extractions and after that about a dozen appointments with the dentist to get it all fixed, but it's one of my hobbies/specialities to turn the uncomfortable into the comfartable for all parties involved, so it's all good fun whatever the situation.

That's great, I will be attending Guo Gu's first upcoming retreat and it's free of charge, I can even sleep at a student's place for free. Ofcourse I will make a donation but the fact that if I couldn't it would make no difference is what seperates the wheat from the chaff.

I know many people who go to spiritual workshops spending thousands of bucks for the cat's violin. (in Dutch we say the cat's *** but the USA version is "violin")
It sometimes saddens me that they won't go to the proper places, ah well, alas for now.

2017 Events at Korinji

Postby Meido on Thu Feb 16, 2017 10:00 pm

Hello All,

A few 2017 Korinji events (located in or near Madison, Wisconsin USA):

March 5th: Half-day zazenkai (mini-retreat) in Madison
May 6-7: Overnight zazenkai (mini-retreat) at Korinji
June 15-20: Sesshin at Korinji
July 15-16: Overnight internal cultivation retreat at Korinji (instruction of energy cultivation and healing practices transmitted in our Rinzai line).

In Europe:

August 24-27: Our annual weekend sesshin in Laufen, Germany (just over the border from Salzburg). Note: this short sesshin is ideal for beginners or those who have not yet done much retreat practice.

We'll likely add more events, but this year we're in a bit of a holding pattern as we move toward groundbreaking for Korinji's final structure, the residence...hopefully in October.

All welcome to these events. For updates, please join the mailing list at http://www.korinji.org. Feel free to PM me with any questions.
