Dear Guo Gu et all, I am taking care of myself. At 73 I feel 53, and that is really good.

Of course the grave matter thingy is there. Who knows when, but really, who cares!

Yesterday after sitting and our service, my friend Mano (Butsujo) emphatically pushed Reverend Sheng-yen at me, again. "Read one book only for a while: METHOD OF NO METHOD", he said.
Okumura roshi recommends Master Sheng-yen to him often.

You had to have been there to get the weight of this suggestion. I felt quite happy and this morning down right light of being.

Thank you Reverend friend and teacher, for you work and care here. And thank all you ZFI regulars too for the same.

In gassho, in gratitude.

:O:

hi ed,
i hope you enjoy that book. gratitude to the three jewels!
be well,

METHOD OF NO METHOD
The book is priceless.
Rev Shen-yen is clear in his instruction ...".. just maintain the clear awareness of the body sitting there." He goes on to instruct Silent Illumination but even that he keeps in perspective not going too far into the no-words-can-describe-this territory.

It has helped with pain among other problems. My right leg tendons at the heel tighten at times. He recommends to make the the pain part of the entire body sensation keeping posture and mind relaxed.
It works.

I liked your preface.
This is my second reading of the book but this time I did read the preface.

We, use a lot of Dogen of course and the more modern commentaries: Uchiyama and Sawaki and Deshimaro.
But Master Sheng-yen is where the rubber meets the road for Butsujo and me.
How fortunate your were to have found such a teacher.
And he you.

In gassho.

Yes, you have mentioned how you trained with Master Shen Yen way way back when Joe. :peace:
You have walked this walk and it shows. Thanks for all the help.

This is my second reading of it and it feels a lot better and easier to sit with it.
