Michael,

Has the look of Messier 51 (M 51), "the Whirlpool galaxy") in the constellation Canes Venatici.

The typhoon is frightening. This is the sort of event and its aftermath where my teacher's organization in Taiwan will be doing the maximum to give assistance and relief. I hope everyone can stay safe.

I think the artist writes that he was inspired by Hurricane Katrina to make this painting, "A Dance With a Whirling Dervish". Oil on canvas, 18 x 24 inches, by Jesse Brodd, $1000 US. The real dervishes, in their vortex-dance, are below.
