"On Opening the Dharma" recitation

Postby desert_woodworker on Thu May 11, 2017 4:23 pm

In Diamond Sangha practice gatherings, such as sesshin, this verse is usually recited before the teacher's teisho, or encouragement-talk (often about 2:00 PM).

The chant-leader ("Ino") leads, and all participating place hands in gassho, and recite the verse three times, at the Ino's pace. Below, I write the three repetitions of the recitation out all the way.

Later this morning when the sun is higher I'll take a photo of a scene in the neighborhood that I feel will be appropriate to include here, and I'll add it. --Joe

The title of the verse is: On Opening the Dharma.

    The Dharma,
    incomparably profound
    and minutely subtle,
    is rarely encountered,
    even in hundreds of thousands
    of millions of kalpas;
    We now can see it,
    listen to it,
    accept and hold it;
    May we completely realize
    the Tathagata's true meaning.

    The Dharma,
    incomparably profound
    and minutely subtle,
    is rarely encountered,
    even in hundreds of thousands
    of millions of kalpas;
    We now can see it,
    listen to it,
    accept and hold it;
    May we completely realize
    the Tathagata's true meaning.

    is rarely encountered,
    even in hundreds of thousands
    of millions of kalpas;
    We now can see it,
    listen to it,
    accept and hold it;
    May we completely realize
    the Tathagata's true meaning.... .
