passing through the gateless barrier

Postby Guo Gu on Wed Apr 27, 2016 12:54 am

hello forum friends,

i hope you're all well. apologies for not being around the forum. so many developments and obligations have preoccupied me (more about that in august). one thing new is that my 2nd book came out with shambhala amidst all the chaos: passing through the gateless barrier: koan practice for real life. you can read about it here: http://www.shambhala.com/authors/g-n/gu ... rrier.html

the book is the results of my comments on the 48 cases of the gateles barrier to my students. after the talks were transcribed, i realized that it had to be streamlined. the result is this book. i wanted to do a fun book giveaway drawing or game for a member here as a humble token of appreciation of the forum. not sure how, maybe you have ideas? maybe pick a number from 1-100? those of you who can read my mind can get a free copy of the book :heya: and use the pages as toilet paper!

i'm leaving for taiwan to ddm for three months. not sure how much time i'll have to get on the internet but i'll try to log on from time to time. for this reason, i was hoping to send the book to the winner of the giveaway before next tuesday.

thank you all for being here and continuing the practice and the conversation.

be well,
guo gu

Dear Gu Gu,

73! (I hope that's a lucky number for me).

This also means "happy listening", or "good listening", when amateur radio operators ("hams") say this (73... ) to each other.

Congratulations! on the new book. Best to you and the sangha,

--Joe

Guo Gu,

I just ordered the book via a Dutch site.

The book is only available for sending here from May 31st, so I have to wait a little while.

If I did pick my first nr right (21) then I'll give it to someone else here on zfi.

42

from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams:

The number 42 is the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything, calculated by an enormous supercomputer named Deep Thought over a period of 7.5 million years.
Unfortunately, no one knows what the question is.

also by Adams - 42: Amazingly Accurate Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything

Right :lol2:

We always spell and chant it with an H Ohhhmmmm, which is fun because it also means unity (electricity)

My Dutch Oom (uncle) is also nicknamed Ohm.

We have the most fun talks together, I mean us not my Ohm :lol2:

Joe, 71 or 75 was the first hunch when I read what GG said.

But I think he was just joking with your 2 numbers of, since 73 are two numbers but so is 49...so you're always 2 numbers of, that's why the "you're close" is so funny, perhaps it's just as simple as this. But it would be weird if Guo Gu would spoil his own game so easily before many had a chance to guess.

If it's actually 71 or 75 I'm going nuts :lol2:
