I forget why I practice.

But vows remind a person.

Shinkantaza Zazen is not meditation.

One sits, and is sat by (and is just sit sitting sits) Shikantaza to realize (in the bones) and realize (make real in living) that which can only be realized by radically not seeking or needing one damn thing. The sit sitting sits is the Total Fruition of All That Is,

Then, rising from the cushion to get back to this life of goals and needing, one realizes that the Goalless is the goals, and the "not needing" illuminates all needs.

Very simple.

Dear Jundo,

Is the LAH on the end of SatToday an asian expression/exclamation (I'm thinking of Singaporean maybe)?

At first I sat to escape, now I sit because of the magic.

Oh, force of habit to write that. LAH is a mark for "Lend A Hand", a socially engaged program of good deed Practice we undertake at Treeleaf. We have a general rule that, absent a reason unable to do so, one have sat Zazen the previous day before chatting on the Forum, and one puts LAH to indicate participating in doing good deeds.

When you can't say it's there
When you can't say it's missing.

(a seagull calls, but there is no notion of "me or seagull or calling" Everything just complete and permeating everything, or "whole" sorry this is a poor description in case the "when you can't say" isn't helpful)

Ouch! And my non-healing wound of 14 months on the left forearm just became fully healed TODAY!, after ... 14 months. Bandages are off... . Scarring is minimal, and may diminish with time (and Arizona Sun).

Good new Joe!

Too bad you didn't send a picture, I collect all "wounds" of friends and family including my own wounds or hospital thingies.
I have like a 100 pics of the doctors working on my infected necrosis toe, I even let the ambulance wait because there was no picture taking yet of me lying on the street :lol2:

I also "collect" pics of family in open caskets, perhaps I'm weird :PP:

Oh and cats too, I keep all pics of cats I meet on the road.

I'll save you the necrosis pics :daisy:

Marcel,

A warrior's battle-pics!
Good thing you didn't send pics of "the OTHER guy". :lol2:

(I mean, I'm assuming you WON that battle). ;)

Be well!,

It's the most radical stillness of body and mind.

If one was going to realize what's-what, it would be through this radical stillness, I thought, where everything settles, has settled, and may remain settled for long enough to have a good look. Or maybe the settling would also last a while, and could be brought into the midst of others through oneself, even in the midst of activity.

These were my thoughts for some years as a Hatha yoga student, before meeting the Ch'an Master Sheng Yen in 1979.

It turns out that what I was anticipating is actually called samatha-vipassana ("stopping-illuminating"), or Chih-Kuan in Chinese. It's a practice known in several schools, but I think it is commonly known as a main practice in T'ien T'ai Buddhism, along with the four samadhis they recognize.

Don't know. Nor is a reason needed.

A tree doesn't entertain concepts of "I'm gonna" "I'm not gonna" or "why I am doing it or not doing" "free will or no free will"

Still it grows the most delicious fruit. :)
