Unregistered reading

Postby chang zhao on Wed Feb 05, 2014 6:42 pm

Today I referenced (somewhere in the web) a topic
viewtopic.php?f=38&t=9841
that I started some time ago, probably in the section "Current Events & Politics".
It was moved soon, to "Any Thing Else Discussions".
Now I realize that all this section is visible only for the registered users.

I posted that topic to be widely accessible, as I believe public needs such warnings.
So I don't know which way would be better - open "Any Thing Else Discussions" for public, or not moving there information that should be open - but I'd like to ask that the mentioned topic would be accessible for all.

BTW. Thanks moderators for their work.
Some Buddhist boards tend to be flooded, but zenforuminternational.org seems to me rather healthy. It has interesting and useful info on Dharma, that I'd like to be able to access, from time to time.
And, I got here some good advice.
Happy birthday, ZFI. Please, stay with us.
In this world of impermanence we should strive to make good things permanent. :)

What good is in false and incompetent teachers?
They often ruin people's practice.
Master Xuyun said: "It not only makes people lose faith; it also gives rise to criticism. The reason the Chan sect is not flourishing is mainly because of the faults of these crazy people."

Hiding truth about lies of such "teachers" means cheating people.
It's not compassionate neither to cheated, nor to cheaters.

who's false? who's incompetent?
the dharma doesn't need anyone to promote or defend. do you seriously think false teachers will bring the dharma to an end?
there is no buddhadharma in seeing falsity in others or wanting to defend the dharma--unless one is in the position to or being asked to comment on others teachings, it's best to observe one's own actions.

I don't understand the question.
All the info is here in the OP.

Guo Gu wrote:the dharma doesn't need anyone to promote or defend. do you seriously think false teachers will bring the dharma to an end?

I don't know that personally, so I have no opinion.
But I know that they work on that. :)

And, AFAIK, Buddha Shakyamuni warned that false teachers and false practitioners will bring the dharma to an end.

I take all his words seriously.

What is "in the position"?

In Buddhadharma there are no such things as "positions" to help people see the truth and aviod mistakes.

when opinion is strong, and position is fixed, don't criticize others. deal with one's own issues first.

OP has a link in the OP which is the main story
CZ had problems with Organizations which offer membership at a price
All affiliated with the name Zen or Zen Buddhism
He shows his dislike of it

Then he quotes Guo GU and creates a juxtaposition which appears as if the CZ is questioning Guo Gu
In Guo Gu's style, he tries to clear up this situation and questions CZ and does it with his usual grace
CZ then misunderstands cause he created a misunderstanding by not being clear in his OP

Wishing to stay out of it ... time for another cup of coffee ... :coffee:

Av, thanks! I'd say you have a handle on it. I've now done my homework, and I think I'm up to date. Thanks again.

As far as coffee is concerned -- or what have you -- make mine a double!

Guo Gu,

Opinion is a mental construction not firmly grounded in this particular situation.

The views of Buddhadharma are not "opinions", because they just show what really is.

What really is in this situation, and what is an opinion?

"Master Maitreya" that promotes his "World Buddhist Association" is not a Buddhist teacher at all.

That's what really is, according to the traditional views of Buddhadharma.

They are not "fixed positions", because they just show the relations between causes and conditions.

You always can move to other positions and see other relations.

People try to keep fixed positions because they don't understand that.

For them, moving away from their positions is like loosing the view that they cherish. The truth is: that causal relation is always there. You always can move there and back, not losing anything. So you don't need to cling to your position.

.. I'm finding this is really hard to do in every situation ..

My opinion is strong, and position is fixed- And .. I'm criticizing- My issue is, my opinion is strong, my position is fixed and I'm criticizing-

"To straighten the crooked,
You must first do a harder thing -
straighten yourself."

I'm crooked- In particular situations-

partofit22,
there is a
Technique of liberation from opinions and fixed views
viewtopic.php?f=129&t=11217

It was very useful for me, and I hope it will help others too.
