The Little Box
1 poem of Vasko Popa

The little box gets her first teeth
And her little length
Little width little emptiness
And all the rest she has

The little box continues growing
The cupboard that she was inside
Is now inside her

And she grows bigger bigger bigger
Now the room is inside her
And the house and the city and the earth
And the world she was in before

The little box remembers her childhood
And by a great longing
She becomes a little box again

Now in the little box
You have the whole world in miniature
You can easily put in a pocket
Easily steal it lose it

Take care of the little box

The Prisoners Of The Little Box
2 poem by VP

Open little box

We kiss your bottom and cover
Keyhole and key

The whole world lies crumpted in you
It resembles everything
Except itself

Not even your clear-sky mother
Would recognize it anymore

The rust will eat your key
Our world and us there inside
And finally you too

We kiss your four sides
And four corners
And twenty-four nails
And anything else you have

Open little box

Last News About The Little Box
3 poem VP

The little box which contains the world
Fell in love with herself
And conceived
Still another little box

The little box of the little box
Also fell in love with herself
And conceived
Still another little box

And so it went on forever

The world from the little box
Ought to be inside
The last offspring of the little box

But not one of the little boxes
Inside the little box in love with herself
Is the last one

Let's see you find the world now

VP fills my poetic love..memories, mind, world, universe.. epically zen in seemingly abstract but precisely navigated images. b :heya:

13. After Play

At last the hands clasp the belly
Lest the belly burst with laughing
But the belly’s not there

One hand just manages to lift itself
To wipe the cold sweat from the forehead
The forehead’s gone too

The other hand clutches at the heart
Lest the heart leap out of the breast
The heart’s gone too

Both hands drop
Idle drop into the lap
The lap’s gone too

On one hand now the rain is falling
From the other grass is growing
What more should I say

Same as you (and me), no doubt.

If he does, I want to see it! That would be the ultimate literary creation

Well, so much for authorial intent. Sorry! And didn't mean to put words in yer mouth, bokki. (cb)

Vasko Popa
The Quartz Pebble
TRANSLATED BY ANNE PENNINGTON

Headless limbless
It appears
With the excitable pulse of chance
It moves
With the shameless march of time
It holds all
In its passionate
Internal embrace

A smooth white innocent torso
It smiles with the eyebrow of the moon

"Since the dawn of time, our bodies have been at war with foreign bacteria and viruses.
Since the dawn of knowingness,
our minds have been at war with uneasy questions.

Since the dawn of wants,
we've been at war with ignorance,
which has not had the time or knowingness
to realize that we have finally ended up at war
only with ourselves - called death

So I ask you
what is it that you always wanted to hold in the palm
of your hand since your birth?
Wood? Metal?
or
Another Hand ?
