I have one of the small handheld thermal-InfraRed cameras, and have taken some images of cats.

The camera responds to infrared "light" in the 7.5 - 13.5 micron wavelength range. Room-temperature objects emit most strongly at about 9.5 microns, so this is a good camera for, e.g., imaging people and warm-blooded animals (and finding them in total darkness).

In the image, the false-color palette encodes brightness of infrared light, and temperature of the object (subject).

Below is a photo of my Turkish Angora cat. He has a bright area under his chin at his right side where his fur was shaved to treat an abscess he developed after a bite-wound from a new cat I have. In other areas, fur blocks some of his IR radiation.

But see his dark nose! (dark means "cold", and/or "wet", at these wavelengths). A healthy cat! ;)

There's a great doc in cinemas now called "Kedi" about stray cats in Istanbul.

Boy, oh, boy, if the (real) cat on the right doesn't look like my Sanderson (cat).

The same smile and crinkly, slanted eyes when he smiles. And this isn't even my Sanderson! But an image culled from the 'net.

Maybe a blood-relative? I'd have to see his tail, and see if the tail-hairs are each about five inches long! Such is the follicle-endowment of my medium-haired big-guy.
