USA INDEPENDENCE DAY POP QUIZ!!!!

USA INDEPENDENCE DAY POP QUIZ!!!!

Postby Gregory Wonderwheel on Fri Jul 04, 2014 11:03 pm

(1) How many people (yes they were all men of the founding patriarchy) signed all three of the USA's founding charters: The Declaration of Independence, The Articles of Confederation, and The Constitution?

Clue: its a number from 1 to 10, so you have a 1 in 10 chance of guessing correctly.

(2) Which of the 13 colonies/states were they from?

(3) What were their names?

At the site itself each line contains a related link-

Out of many Equals, one more perfect union.

Out of many Peoples, one nation conceived in liberty.
Out of many Labors, one shared prosperity.
Out of many Urgencies, one fear, of fear itself.
Out of many Rights, one government of, by and for the people to secure them.
Out of many Individuals, one we the people.
Out of many Beauties, one brotherhood from sea to shining sea.
Out of many Unknowns, one first obligation to the truth.
Out of many Strivings, one equal protection of the laws.

Out of many United Nations, one world with freedom of speech, of worship, from want and from fear.
Out of many Needs, one purpose to promote the general welfare.
Out of many Undertakings, one purpose to secure the blessings of liberty to our posterity.
Out of many Movements, one long arc of the moral universe bending toward justice.

Sorry I missed the fun of the quiz. What is remarkable about July 4th for me is that it is the recorded day when Thoreau inhabits his cabin. So since I haven't liked the holiday since the who ha of the 1976 celebration I now spend the day reading Walden. It's the opposite of fireworks and budweiser.
The way is to get out of the way of the way.

I.,

Neat!

On Easter(s), I re-read Harnack's, WHAT IS CHRISTIANITY? (1900).

"The Sun is but a morning star",

ps I saw and photographed the Tall Ships along the Hudson in NYC in '76. It was great. Then a late afternoon soaking thunderstorm sent us running for home (I was living up near Columbia). It cleared again afterwards for the fireworks, downtown.

Is that the theme? I missed it! Just not the fireworks -- or buttered corn which was probably GMO .. But I do like the idea of reading Walden once a year- Thanks, Island, for mentioning it-

P.,

I tossed it in.

"Red" states against "Blue" states.

The "corporate" flag in the OP brought to mind other examples of special-interests and examples of divisive feelings, expressed in Art. It seemed during several elections that there were examples of "red-blue" art everywhere for a while. I saved a few.
