One Bright Pearl

Postby Sparkle on Wed Jan 20, 2016 11:32 am

I remember encountering Dogen Zenji's writing's way back and scratching my dome?

I did hope one day I would understand what the hell he was going on about. I don't claim any real "understanding" mind you...

I've probably just picked up a bit over the years of reading and listening to talks...

I DID say I wasn't going to post any more...The way I seem to be...Hmmm? GUSHING at the moment. But...

This One Bright Pearl hits me like a tonne of bricks...more so with each reading.

Is there something peculiar with this chapter? It touches me so deeply I'm left tearing up?????

Stuff like this keeps happening lol

A few years ago I DID find a similar chapter in the Denkoroku but in re-reading the next day it was gone. In fact I couldn't even FIND the piece again a week.

Stu,

This could be a great time to go on a 7-day retreat. Can you get away? Is there a place having retreat or sesshin soon where you could travel to?

best,

Early on in in my practice and training with Katagiri-roshi, I told him that I didn't understand much of what he said in that morning's dharma talk. His reply was, "It's okay if you don't understand; just keep practicing and someday you will understand."

He was right.

Hands palm-to-palm,

Thank you Joe Linda and Rev. Nonin for the replies...

Sit down and shut up lol

There is a 3 day retreat in about ten days and a Sunday 1 day so I can at least touch base soon.

I really value Steve Hagen's talks over at Dharmafield and I am a member there so have access to the various archived talks and classes and there is one on this subject (OBP) I have been listening to today.

I won't say any more, but thanks again.

Stu.

Dear Stu,

Well, I mention or suggest a retreat because, when things are so poignant in daily-life, what better opportunity to practice deeply? I hope it's so. I don't think Nature provides very many of these opportunities in a lifetime.

Wishing you the best in daily life, and in practice, and even if you don't distinguish "between 'them' ". ;)

:Namaste:,
